Snellman Petfood: Initiative to Establish a European Raw Feeding Manufacturing Standard for pet food

,

A collaborative step towards higher production standards, transparency, and responsible growth in the raw pet food sector.

Raw and fresh feeding continues to grow across European markets, reflecting increasing consumer interest in minimally processed pet nutrition and greater transparency around ingredients and manufacturing practices. That is why several leading European raw pet food manufacturers – including Snellman Petfood, Freshfrozen for Pets and The Nutriment Company – have announced a joint initiative to adopt a European Raw Feeding Manufacturing Standard. As the category develops, participating companies believe there is a growing need for clear, credible and consistent manufacturing standards that support product safety, responsible production and consumer confidence across Europe.

“As the category grows, we need common, clear, and credible guidelines to strengthen product safety, quality, and transparency. With a European manufacturing standard, the industry is taking an important step toward building long-term trust among both consumers and retailers,” comments Magnus Pettersson, CEO, Snellman Petfood.

The initiative builds on best practices established by UK Pet Food and aims to create a European-wide scalable framework. A core element of the standard will be regular audits conducted by independent third-party organizations to ensure that participating manufacturers consistently meet the defined entry and ongoing participation criteria. The initiative is open to manufacturers who wish to join and meet the requirements.

“Safety, standards, best practice and transparency underpin the future of raw feeding. Having worked closely with UK regulators to develop and accredit the standard for our brand Benyfit Natural, extending it across Europe is a natural and exciting next step. This groundbreaking initiative is built on collaboration, and we are delighted to work with national associations and manufacturers across Europe. We strongly encourage other raw manufacturers to engage with their local national associations and join the scheme so that, together, we can raise standards and lead the future of manufacturing excellence” adds Greg van Praagh, Managing Director, Benyfit Natural (part of Snellman Petfood).

Further details on the framework, governance model, and certification process will be shared in the coming months.
